Gronk loves the Giants' street fight

A four-time Super Bowl champ watched the Giants maul Dallas and saw something New York hasn't had in years.

In brief

A four-time Super Bowl champ watched the Giants maul Dallas and saw something New York hasn't had in years. The Giants won by imposing a running game, and Gronkowski thinks that mentality, not the highlight plays, is what makes them worth watching. Originally reported by New York Post.

A champ likes what he sees

Rob Gronkowski in a light gray New England Patriots baseball cap and dark gray varsity jacket, smiling.

Rob Gronkowski watched the Giants beat the Cowboys 28-20 on Sunday night and came away sold on how they play.

“I really like the New York Giants, how they play the game of football.”

Old school, down your throat

Gronkowski's word for the Giants is old school. No tricks, just running the ball at a defense until it breaks.

“It's old school. They're running it down your throat.”

The numbers back him up

New York out-rushed Dallas 165-69 and picked up 11 rushing first downs to the Cowboys' four. Time of possession was 36:40, a gap of more than 13 minutes.

Skattebo and Dart did it

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (44) runs the ball while Dallas Cowboys defenders pursue and a Giants player (76) is on the ground.

Cam Skattebo bulled for 81 yards on 18 carries. Jaxson Dart added 54 rushing yards on 11 runs plus 230 passing yards and three touchdowns.

A new mentality in New York

Gronkowski's real point is about attitude. Two young players took on the scrutiny that comes with playing in New York and answered it on the field.

“You've got to love a player and a team that takes on all the noise and then they go out on the football field and they punch the Dallas Cowboys in the face.”

Both New York teams won

The Jets beat the Titans 23-10 the same weekend, so the Giants and Jets both started 1-0 for the first time since 2009.

“It's a start the New York teams haven't seen in a while.”

What it means

The Giants won by imposing a running game, and Gronkowski thinks that mentality, not the highlight plays, is what makes them worth watching.
