Four killed in Louisiana stabbing spree
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder after a deadly rampage in Houma on September 12, 2026. The victims were Verna Mae Verdin, her children Letha Verret and Paul Verret, and Paul's partner Krissy Lynn Parfait.
Six-year-old stabbed but ran for help
A 6-year-old boy staying with his grandmother was attacked and sustained multiple stab wounds but heroically sought help from neighbors despite his injuries. Police found him near the home before discovering the four dead adults inside.
“He knew he was injured and he was just worried about making sure someone knew his family was in trouble.”
Boy airlifted to hospital in critical condition
The 6-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition with multiple stab wounds. As of Wednesday, he remained hospitalized but stable, with his father calling him a strong fighter.
“Please pray for my little man as he recovers he's so so strong and such a fighter.”
Suspect known to the victims
Solet was known to the victims and had fathered one of their children. He was captured around 10:30 a.m. Sunday following an hours-long manhunt and was released from the hospital Tuesday before being arrested.
Victims included great-grandmother and family
Verna Mae Verdin, a great-grandmother two weeks from retiring from Walmart's bakery, lived in the main home with her daughter Letha. Paul and Krissy stayed in a camper in the backyard. Letha leaves behind seven children, including three minors.
Suspect had history of violent crimes
Solet had faced arrests in two previous stabbings in Houma. In January 2019, he was charged with stabbing death of homeless man Kemple Paul Scott Lovell, but a grand jury declined to indict due to lack of evidence. He was arrested again in December 2019 for attempted murder but was found not guilty in November 2023.
Held without bond pending trial
Solet was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and is being held without bond. Police are asking residents for home security footage between Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. to help with the murder investigation.
