One-week-old killed by family dog
Baby Jason Anthony Weaver died after being attacked by Chomp, a 5-year-old husky and pit bull mix, who bit him at least 180 times in their Markle, Indiana home.
Severe injuries from the attack
The baby suffered wounds across his head and body, plus major internal injuries including brain hemorrhages, rib fractures and tears in his lungs.
Squalid conditions in the home

The house was overflowing with trash, bugs, dirty dishes and dirty clothes. Officers noted a strong odor of animal, trash and dirt, and bugs were found on the baby's car seat.
“There was so much trash and debris, officers could barely walk through the home.”
Dog had history of aggression

Family members said Chomp was gentle with the baby but admitted the dog could be jealous, had been aggressive toward other animals and had bitten people before. They kept a gun in the house in case the dog acted up.
Father sentenced to 16 years
Austin Kinsey was initially charged with two counts of neglect and harboring a non-immunized dog. He pleaded guilty and received a 16-year prison sentence on Monday.
Other family members still facing charges
The baby's mother, Violet Weaver, is scheduled for a plea hearing. Grandparents Timothy Kinsey and Rita Wickey, uncle Tony Kinsey and Michael Wickey also face charges related to the death.
