An offer to fly to Florida

Zelensky said he is ready to travel to the G20 summit in Miami in December to sit down with Vladimir Putin in person.

“We have to meet, to speak and make decisions”

Why he thinks now

He argues the Kremlin is paying a big price for tiny battlefield gains, with Russia estimated to be losing more than 30,000 soldiers a month.

“So that's why we think that we have now good position for negotiations”

Four years without a handshake

The two leaders have not met since Russia invaded in February 2022. Attempts to restart talks have stalled all year, so Miami would be a rare direct opening.

Moscow shuts it down

Russian President Vladimir Putin listens intently, wearing a dark suit and blue tie, with a Russian flag visible in the blurred background.

A day later, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia doesn't know yet whether it's going to Miami. Aide Yury Ushakov said Putin's attendance hasn't even been discussed.

“we don't know yet whether we'll be going to Miami”

Come to Moscow instead

Both officials repeated Russia's standing line: if Zelensky wants a meeting, he should travel to Moscow. Zelensky has said repeatedly that he won't.

While the summit talk played out, Russia launched another wave of missiles and drones across Ukraine. Local authorities reported 11 killed and 96 wounded in a day.
