Arch Manning apologizes to Holly Rowe

In brief
A quarterback laughed at an AI video of a reporter being slapped, then had to answer for it a day later. Laughing at an AI fake still lands on a real person, and the apology has to go to them by name. Originally reported by Newsweek.
A press conference goes wrong
Texas quarterback Arch Manning drew public heat after remarks he made about ESPN reporter Holly Rowe at a Monday press conference.
The AI clip he called hilarious
Manning laughed about an AI edit showing head coach Steve Sarkisian slapping Rowe in the face, made after Texas beat Ohio State on Saturday night.
“I saw an AI edit of Sark's interview... of him slapping Holly Rowe. Yeah. That's hilarious.”
An apology by Tuesday
A day later, Manning posted on Instagram calling his own comment insensitive and saying there was nothing funny about the video.
“It's easy to say I didn't mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people.”
He names her directly
Manning apologized to Rowe specifically for what she had to deal with because of him, said he respects her, and promised to be more thoughtful.
“I need to be better and will be more thoughtful moving forward.”
Rowe accepts and moves on
Rowe replied with a short statement accepting the apology, thanking Manning, and keeping their conversation private.
“Apology accepted. We move forward with respect and kindness for one another.”
Back to football Saturday
Manning and the No. 1 ranked Longhorns play UTSA on Saturday, with the story behind them.
