GameDay host won't crown Texas No. 1 despite Ohio State upset

In brief
Rece Davis keeps Notre Dame at the top after watching the Longhorns struggle for three quarters against the Buckeyes. A big win doesn't always mean you're the best team if you struggled for most of the game to get there. Originally reported by Newsweek.
Texas stuns Ohio State
The Longhorns rallied from 23-3 down to beat the top-ranked Buckeyes 24-23 on Saturday. Many now consider Texas the team to beat in college football.
Davis keeps Notre Dame on top
The College GameDay host told Pat McAfee he still ranks Notre Dame No. 1, with Texas at No. 2. Watching the entire game made it hard to call them the best team.
“I still have Notre Dame ranked at No. 1. I put Texas No. 2 because I wanted to honor the victory.”
A brutal first half
Texas fell behind 23-3 before their comeback. Freak plays like a dropped catch that bounced into a defender's hands and Jeremiah Smith's 151 yards made things worse.
Best win, not best team

Davis acknowledged Texas has the best victory and moment of the season so far. But they didn't look like the No. 1 team for the entire game.
“They certainly have the best win and the best moment, but I don't have them on top right now.”
Tennessee will be the test
The Longhorns travel to Tennessee on Sept. 26 in what could be a defining game. A win there might finally convince Davis to put them at No. 1.
What matters most
A big win doesn't always mean you're the best team if you struggled for most of the game to get there.
