Packers lock up Tucker Kraft for $75M
Green Bay handed its young tight end a four-year deal days before the season opener, betting on eight games of production.
In brief
Green Bay handed its young tight end a four-year deal days before the season opener, betting on eight games of production. Green Bay paid for a small sample and a big ceiling: 25 years old, six touchdowns in eight games, signed through his prime. Originally reported by Newsweek.
Deal lands before kickoff
Green Bay got its tight end signed ahead of the season opener against Minnesota, clearing the question before Week 1 rather than letting it sit all year.
“The Green Bay Packers have made a significant move ahead of their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.”
Four years, $75 million
Adam Schefter reported the terms: a four-year extension worth $75 million, with $26.5 million guaranteed up front as a signing bonus.
It can climb to $92M
Incentives push the maximum value to $92 million, so the headline number is the floor of what Kraft can earn on this contract.
“Kraft's contract extension is worth up to $92 million”
Eight games, six scores
Last season was cut to eight games. In that stretch Kraft caught 32 passes for 489 yards and found the end zone six times.
He is only 25
Three years in, the 6-foot-5 tight end is still young enough that the version Green Bay is paying for may not be his best one.
“this contract extension has the potential to be a real home run for Green Bay”
The career line so far
Across 42 games and three seasons, all in Green Bay, Kraft has 113 catches, 1,551 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Now he plays with the deal behind him.
The big picture
Green Bay paid for a small sample and a big ceiling: 25 years old, six touchdowns in eight games, signed through his prime.
