Luzardo hits the IL

Jesus Luzardo is going on the injured list with a left shoulder injury, ending his 2026 regular season as Philadelphia pushes toward October.
An ace-level season
The 28-year-old lefty has a career-best 2.87 ERA through 29 starts, with 221 strikeouts in 178.2 innings and a 6.4 bWAR.
Second-half surge
Luzardo has been even sharper since the All-Star break, posting a 1.84 ERA with 85 strikeouts over 68.1 innings.
One last gem
His final regular-season start came Sept. 7 against Atlanta, when he struck out 12 and threw the first complete game shutout of his career.
October is still possible
Luzardo believes he can return in the postseason, even if his role shifts from starter to reliever.
“Guaranteed”
Phillies hold position
Philadelphia sits in the NL’s second Wild Card spot, ahead of San Diego and Arizona, and still within reach of the Cubs for the top Wild Card.
