A year after the Mariners' first ALCS run, their manager is the one name insiders expect to be fired. A club that overachieves once sets a bar its manager gets measured against, and Seattle fell well short of it. Originally reported by Newsweek.
Seattle's sour sequel

The Mariners followed their first-ever ALCS appearance in 2025 with a flat 2026. Plenty of people share the blame, but most of it is landing on manager Dan Wilson.
Four names, one certainty
On Fair Territory, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic named four managers on the hot seat: Kurt Suzuki, Craig Albernaz, Torey Lovullo and Wilson. Only one felt like a lock.
“I am rather confident that (the Mariners) are going to move on from Dan Wilson”
A Mariner for 30 years

Seattle traded for Wilson before the 1994 season. He went into the team's Hall of Fame in 2012, called games on the regional network, then coached catchers in the minors.
The 2025 high-water mark
Wilson replaced Scott Servais in August 2024. The next year Seattle went 90-72, won the AL West and pushed Toronto to seven games in the ALCS.
Seventy and seventy-nine
A weak AL West was there for the taking. Instead Seattle entered Sunday's game against the A's at 70-79, third in the division and five games out of the last wild card.
What he cannot outrun
Cal Raleigh, Luis Castillo and Rob Refsnyder underachieved on their own. But stack enough of that on top of rigid platoon matchups and shaky bullpen calls, and the manager pays.
