In brief
New Apple TV 4K costs $299 but 2022 model still wins for most users. The 2026 Apple TV 4K costs $299 with better processing and voice control but the 2022 model remains better value for most users. Originally reported by PCMAG.
Price: $299 Is a Tough Sell
The new Apple TV 4K comes in a single 128GB configuration for $299. That's a steep ask for a media streamer, and the gap between the two models has grown over time.
Processor: A Four-Generation Leap
The new Apple TV 4K runs on Apple's A19 chip, which powers the iPhone 17. That's four generations ahead of the 2022 Apple TV 4K and its A15 Bionic chip, which drove the iPhone 13.
Media Playback: Identical 4K, HDR, and Atmos Support
Both Apple TV 4K generations output up to 4K resolution and support high dynamic range content in HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. They also support Dolby Atmos spatial audio.
Voice Control: Siri Finally Goes Hands-Free
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K has a far-field microphone array that lets you use Siri just by speaking, which is an important upgrade. The 2022 model requires picking up the remote to use Siri.
AI Features: The Older Model Isn't Left Behind
Despite having a more powerful chip, the new Apple TV 4K doesn't offer many AI-powered features that the third-gen model already has or will eventually get.
Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a Remote You Can Pinpoint
Apple has upgraded the new Apple TV 4K with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a remote that uses ultra-wideband to locate it within inches of where it is.
Home Theater Audio: Up to Four HomePods for Surround Sound
The new Apple TV 4K can wirelessly connect up to two pairs of second-gen HomePods or HomePod mini 2s for full surround sound, while the 2022 model only supports stereo audio.
Verdict: The Best Apple TV Yet, at a Premium Price
The new Apple TV 4K costs $299 but the 2022 model still matches it on video and audio quality and will get the same upcoming AI features.
The one thing
The 2026 Apple TV 4K costs $299 with better processing and voice control but the 2022 model remains better value for most users.
