Meta introduces hearing enhancement software
Meta's Hearing Enhancement software, an FDA-cleared feature, will arrive later this year on select smart glasses as a $149.99 add-on.
Hearing Enhancement targets mild to moderate hearing loss
The software is designed for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, including those who need to turn up TV volume or hear from a specific ear.
Hearing Enhancement uses built-in speakers
The feature harnesses six microphones in the glasses to capture all sounds and amplifies them with built-in speakers, requiring no additional hardware.
Hearing Enhancement adapts to user needs
Meta says the software detects which sounds users struggle to hear and adapts by boosting select tones.
Hearing Enhancement costs less than hearing aids
Meta views the solution as a more affordable alternative to traditional prescription hearing aids, which can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $8,000.
Hearing Enhancement available via Meta One subscription
The software feature will be free for customers on a paid Meta One subscription, which bundles Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Hearing Enhancement addresses privacy concerns
Meta's glasses have faced pushback over the built-in camera being misused to take videos and photos without permission.
