In brief
Philadelphia promotes Britain Covey and keeps an unusual receiver group while weighing options for their open 53-man roster spot. The Eagles are keeping seven wide receivers active because they plan to use six on game days, with the final roster spot likely going to a tight end. Originally reported by Philadelphia…
Dickerson to IR, Covey promoted
The Eagles moved guard Landon Dickerson to injured reserve and brought Britain Covey up from the practice squad. They signed tight end Josiah Deguara to fill Covey's practice squad spot.
One roster spot still open
After the Covey promotion, Philadelphia still has one available spot on their 53-man roster. The opening came from Eli Stowers going on injured reserve last week.
Seven receivers is unusual

The Eagles now carry seven wide receivers on the active roster, even though they also have three tight ends. Two receivers didn't even play last Sunday.
Hollywood Brown got zero snaps
Marquise Brown was active but didn't play a single snap, while Elijah Moore was inactive. Makai Lemon struggled in his debut despite being open on some plays.
“Hollywood could obviously help us, and we want to get him into the football game because his speed is real. It just didn't work out that way.”
Brown will get more chances
Nick Sirianni says the team will make a better effort to get Brown on the field. Moore may also see more action given Lemon's rough first game.
Covey and Cooper both needed

Darius Cooper locked down the second gunner spot on special teams and won't be inactive. Covey is the punt returner and had already used two practice squad elevations.
Six receivers will dress weekly
While seven receivers is unorthodox, the Eagles plan to play six of them on regular game days. Promoting Covey now made sense before the decision became urgent.
Third tight end barely played
E.J. Jenkins played just one snap on Sunday. The Eagles ran two or three tight end sets only 27.3% of offensive snaps, leaving little need for Jenkins or Johnny Mundt.
Zach Ertz could return home

A veteran pass catcher like Ertz could fill the 53rd spot and allow more two tight end sets. If Jenkins isn't being used much, adding a better pass catcher makes sense.
Final spot likely a tight end
The Eagles could also add an offensive lineman, but Deguara is the only tight end on the practice squad. Based on snap counts, the last roster spot probably goes to a tight end.
The essence
The Eagles are keeping seven wide receivers active because they plan to use six on game days, with the final roster spot likely going to a tight end.
