Eagles win ugly in Week 1, and Sirianni stays perfect

Jalen Hurts made the big throws, the pass rush went missing, and a 24-22 opener left plenty to argue about.

In brief

Jalen Hurts made the big throws, the pass rush went missing, and a 24-22 opener left plenty to argue about. The Eagles are 6-0 in Week 1 under Sirianni, but the offensive line and pass rush both need fixing fast. Originally reported by PhillyVoice.

A classic Eagles win

A classic Eagles win

Philadelphia beat Washington 24-22 in the season opener. They won, and there is still a long list of complaints.

“it was a classic Eagles game in that they won and there's a lot to complain about”

Hurts made the plays

Eagles v Commanders - Claggett Jalen Hurts Dallas Goedert

The offense never found a rhythm, but Hurts went 14 of 25 for 203 yards, 3 TDs, no picks, and a 122.2 rating. He added 46 yards on 7 carries.

The throw that wasn't called

Wicks was running a clear-out on the deep corner, not the primary read. Hurts saw it was open and dropped in a perfect over-the-shoulder ball.

Four verts, redeemed

The first Goedert touchdown came on the same four verts call that ended the 2025 season. Hurts threw it high, Goedert went and got it, and then shrugged.

The 3rd and 18 scramble

Hurts ran 22 yards on third and 18, a swing play in a two-point game. He looked spry, the way he did in summer camp.

Goedert is not done

He finished with 4 catches for 77 yards and both touchdowns. At 31 and off a down year, the decline talk did not match what showed up Sunday.

“He looked fast.”

Wicks arrives early

With DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon out most of camp, Wicks became Hurts' summer go-to. He turned that into two big plays in his Eagles debut.

Dickerson's worst night

He gave up pressure all evening and whiffed on run blocks repeatedly. One game won't get him benched, but the leash is shorter now.

Jurgens settled down

Two holding penalties on run plays in the first quarter put the center in an early hole. He played better as the night went on.

No feast up front

Washington was missing left tackle Laremy Tunsil and the rest of that line isn't good. The Eagles still got one sack and barely touched Jayden Daniels.

Ojomo sealed it

He spun off a block, sniffed out a shovel pass, and blew up the two-point conversion that would have tied it. That play ended the game.

“Great players make big plays, and Ojomo is becoming a great player.”

Special teams won the margins

Jalen Carter blocked a PAT, and that point decided a two-point game. Elliott hit everything and Mann boomed a 62-yard punt.

“Jalen Carter blocked a PAT (that point mattered!)”

Baun was everywhere

Twelve tackles, one for loss, and a couple of pass breakups. The numbers are good, the tape is better, because he showed up wherever the ball went.

Six for six in openers

Sirianni has never lost a Week 1 game: Falcons, Lions, Patriots, Packers, Cowboys, and now Commanders. The last five were all one-score wins.

The schedule is kind

A better opponent might have turned this into a loss. Week 2 brings another soft landing in Nashville against a Titans team the Jets just beat up.

What to remember

The Eagles are 6-0 in Week 1 under Sirianni, but the offensive line and pass rush both need fixing fast.
