The Eagles offseason, speed-run for casual fans

A.J. Brown is gone, the offensive coordinator is fired, and the roster looks different before Week 1 against Washington.

In brief

A.J. Brown is gone, the offensive coordinator is fired, and the roster looks different before Week 1 against Washington. Philadelphia blew up a stale offense and shipped its unhappy star receiver, so the pressure now sits squarely on Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni. Originally reported by PhillyVoice.

Season starts Sunday

Season starts Sunday

The Eagles host the Washington Commanders at 4:25 p.m. to open the regular season. If you spent the offseason doing literally anything else, plenty changed.

“Oh hey, Eagles season is here. High five!”

The offense was the problem

091126JalenHurts

Last season's offense was bad, boring and predictable despite a roster full of talent. Blame spread from the head coach to the coordinator to a banged-up line to Jalen Hurts himself.

Patullo got the axe

Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was the easiest target, with a long list of gripes tied directly to his job and almost nothing to say in his defense.

Sean Mannion takes over

The new coordinator is a 34-year-old former quarterback. He will run a version of the Shanahan and McVay system that has spread across the league.

A.J. Brown is a Patriot

Brown moped through 2025, asked out, and got shipped to New England for first- and fifth-round picks. The first-rounder does not arrive until 2028.

The Hurts fallout

Brown and Hurts went from best friends to a fractured relationship, which helped push the trade through. Brown lands with his boyhood team, Hurts gets a drama-free locker room.

Brown is already hurt

He suffered a high ankle sprain in New England's season-opening loss to Seattle and could miss roughly a month.

Three more walked

Jaelan Phillips, Reed Blankenship and Nakobe Dean all left in free agency. Phillips cashed in with Carolina, while Blankenship and Dean took mid-tier deals in Houston and Las Vegas.

Greenard is the big add

A draft-day trade brought edge defender Jonathan Greenard over from Minnesota. He is recovering from a pectoral injury he suffered lifting weights, so he may miss a game or two.

New corner, new receivers

Riq Woolen brings rare height and speed at cornerback. Veteran wideouts Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore joined too, with Wicks getting the early snaps.

Five straight offensive picks

WR Makai Lemon, TE Eli Stowers, OT Markel Bell, QB Cole Payton and OG Micah Morris went in rounds one through six. Lemon is the only one likely to play real snaps.

Nobody has seen Lemon

The first-round receiver rehabbed a hamstring injury all summer, so his rare appearances gave almost nothing to judge him on.

“your guess is as good as mine”

No more free pass

A Lombardi win bought patience last year. After a flat title defense, Hurts and Sirianni take the heat if 2026 goes sideways.

The main idea

Philadelphia blew up a stale offense and shipped its unhappy star receiver, so the pressure now sits squarely on Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni.
