Robocall targets Salazar on immigration

A paid robocall by Battleground Alliance, a super PAC, attacks Republican congresswoman María Elvira Salazar of Florida for voting to support President Trump's immigration agenda.

The race and the claims

Salazar faces Democrat Eliott Rodriguez for Florida's congressional district 27, which includes parts of Miami. The call claims she voted for everything Trump wanted on immigration.

The eighty-three billion dollar claim

The eighty-three billion dollar claim

The robocall says Salazar voted for eighty-three billion dollars for ICE and ten thousand new detention agents.

Salazar's votes on the bills

Salazar voted for the HR one, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Trump signed in July two thousand twenty-five.

The second immigration vote

In June, Salazar also voted for the Secure America Act, which gave ICE thirty-eight point five billion dollars additional. Combined with the earlier bill, this totals the eighty-three billion dollars the robocall cited.

Alligator Alcatraz visit

After visiting the detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz in south Florida in July two thousand twenty-five, Salazar told CBS News the cages were clean.

“Es una cárcel, la gente está en jaulas, me senté en las camas, están limpias, son suaves… Estaba limpio y muy bien presentado.”

Facility conditions disputed

In July two thousand twenty-five, more than two hundred fifty of approximately seven hundred fifty people detained at Alligator Alcatraz had no criminal records or pending charges in the US, according to the Miami Herald…

Inspector general report

In September, a Department of Homeland Security inspector general report found the facility did not meet standards for environmental health and safety, medical care, food service and personal hygiene.

Body camera claim lacks context

The robocall says Salazar voted against requiring ICE agents to wear body cameras and remove masks.

The verdict

PolitiFact found the robocall mostly correct on Salazar's immigration votes and her Alligator Alcatraz comments, but the body camera claim omits important context about her actual position.

The bottom line

A robocall attacking Republican congresswoman María Elvira Salazar's immigration record is mostly accurate on her votes for ICE funding and her comments on detention facilities, but omits context on her position on body cameras for immigration agents.
