Faisal Maina arrested
Faisal Maina, son of ex-convict Abdulrasheed Maina, has reportedly been arrested six years after jumping bail on money laundering charges.
Arrested by SSS
The State Security Service (SSS) tracked and arrested Faisal in the Karsana area of Abuja before handing him over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Fled after bail breach
Faisal had been on the run since 2020 after breaching bail conditions following his EFCC arraignment on three money laundering charges.
Conviction in absentia
Faisal’s trial continued in his absence and culminated in a 14-year prison sentence by the Federal High Court in October 2021 for money laundering.
Court details
The court found Faisal operated a fictitious United Bank for Africa (UBA) account through which his father allegedly laundered N58.1 million.
Appeal reduced sentence
In November 2022, the Court of Appeal reduced Faisal’s sentence from 14 years to seven years, citing he was a first-time offender.
Father’s conviction
Faisal’s father, Abdulrasheed Maina, served eight years for laundering N2 billion in pension funds before being declared wanted for receiving stolen property.

Faisal has been arrested following credible intelligence that he had secretly returned to Nigeria after six years on the run.
