Crypto's shortcut to checkout runs through your bank app

Most people will not download a new wallet, but 77% would open one inside the finance app they already use.

In brief

Most people will not download a new wallet, but 77% would open one inside the finance app they already use. Digital assets spread faster by hiding inside familiar apps and cards than by asking people to learn a new way to pay. Originally reported by Pymnts.

Crypto wants to be spent

Cryptocurrencies and stablecoins are moving past investing. People want to buy and transfer with them, but weak merchant acceptance, shaky trust and scattered experiences keep getting in the way.

Familiar apps open the door

Familiar apps open the door

Seventy-seven percent of consumers would open a crypto or stablecoin wallet inside their current banking or FinTech app. Banks already own the login, the relationship and the interface.

The card is a translator

Seventy-one percent of stablecoin holders would spend through a linked debit card. It converts the asset at the register and rides existing rails, so the merchant sees a normal payment.

“Consumers don't need a separate checkout routine.”

Infrastructure decides the ceiling

Issuers need real-time authorization, conversion and card issuance across both worlds. Rain scaled roughly 38-fold in 2025 and passed $3 billion in annualized spending after joining the Visa network directly.

Business transfers lead already

Cross-border B2B payments make up most global stablecoin volume, pulled by faster settlement, lower cost and dollar-linked value in volatile markets.

Demand is ahead of supply

Forty-two percent of stablecoin holders want to fund major purchases with digital assets, but only 28% do. Nearly half blame thin merchant acceptance, and MiCA plus the GENIUS Act are clearing the rules.

Here's the gist

Digital assets spread faster by hiding inside familiar apps and cards than by asking people to learn a new way to pay.
