Lineage Bank is now Harpeth Bank & Trust

A Tennessee bank burned by the Synapse collapse drops its old name and bets on local relationship banking.

In brief

A Tennessee bank burned by the Synapse collapse drops its old name and bets on local relationship banking. The rebrand is the visible half of a turnaround that an FDIC consent order is quietly forcing. Originally reported by Pymnts.

A new name in Tennessee

A new name in Tennessee

Lineage Bank announced on LinkedIn on Tuesday, September 15, that it is now Harpeth Bank & Trust. The old name carried the Synapse era with it.

The Synapse connection

Lineage was one of four partner banks where Synapse opened demand deposit accounts for about 100 fintech platforms over a decade. Synapse went bankrupt in 2024.

The FDIC order came first

On July 31 the FDIC disclosed a consent order with Lineage, which settled without admitting or denying charges of unsafe or unsound banking practices.

The order demands a three-year business plan, a profit plan, problem credit reduction, funded credit loss allowances, a capital plan, dividend pre-approval, a brokered deposit plan and interest rate risk mitigation.

New owners, new bench

Recap Financial Ventures closed its purchase of a majority stake in holding company Lineage Financial Network in March. The bank has since named an executive team of veteran Middle Tennessee bankers.

Betting on the branch, not the API

Harpeth says it is adding staff, upgrading technology and focusing on Middle Tennessee communities. The pitch is local decisions and relationships, not fintech deposit pipes.

“This is much more than putting a new name on the bank.”

The short version

The rebrand is the visible half of a turnaround that an FDIC consent order is quietly forcing.
