In brief
Tangent Design Group built a one-off off-road Porsche 911 for salted, potholed city streets, and nobody paid them to do it. The best builds often come from people who just wanted to make the thing, not from a client brief. Originally reported by Robb Report.
No excuse needed

Tangent Design Group made a Safari-style Porsche 911 for one reason: they wanted to. No brief, no buyer, no deadline.
“You don't always need an excuse to do something cool.”
A 911 lifted for the city

The build takes Porsche's 911 and gives it the raised, rugged Safari treatment, normally reserved for desert rallies and gravel stages.
Designed for Chicago streets

Chicago roads chew up normal cars. Tangent aimed this one at that exact problem: salt, slush, potholes and brutal winters.
Strictly one of one

There is no production run and no second copy. The car exists as a single finished object from a single shop.
“The gorgeous one-of-a-kind off-roader isn't a commission for a client, either.”
Not a commission

No client ordered it, so no client shaped it. Every decision on the car came from the people building it.
A labor of love
Tangent describes the project as exactly that. It is a shop showing what it can do when the only person to satisfy is itself.
“Instead, it's a pure labor of love.”
The main idea
The best builds often come from people who just wanted to make the thing, not from a client brief.
