In brief
A barely driven 2024 T.50 is heading to auction, and the story behind it starts with a teenager, a bedroom and the number 47. The T.50's price is really a bet on Gordon Murray's record, from a car he built in his bedroom at 17 to a Le Mans win on his 47th birthday. Originally reported by Robb Report.
A six-million-dollar hammer drop

A 2024 Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 with barely any miles on it is crossing the block at RM Sotheby's, where it could clear $6 million.
Murray's favourite number

Professor Gordon Murray has a thing for 47. It keeps turning up at the turning points of his career, and not always by accident.
“There's a special place in Professor Gordon Murray 's heart for the numeral 47.”
Built in a bedroom at 17
His first design was the T.1, a low-slung two-seater he drew, engineered and assembled himself as a teenager. He raced it wearing number 47.
“the low-slung T.1 two-seater that he penned, engineered, and built in his bedroom”
Le Mans, on his birthday
In June 1995 the McLaren F1 GTR took outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Murray turned 47 that same day.
“his then-new McLaren F1 GTR race car won the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright, doing so on Murray's 47th birthday”
A V-12 with no turbos

The T.50 carries a 3.9-liter naturally aspirated Cosworth V-12. No forced induction, no hybrid assist, just revs and airflow.
Driver in the middle

Inside, the cabin follows the F1 template Murray made famous, with the driver's seat set centrally and passengers tucked back on either side.
The headline
The T.50's price is really a bet on Gordon Murray's record, from a car he built in his bedroom at 17 to a Le Mans win on his 47th birthday.
