Sammy Hagar accuses Alex Van Halen of erasing his legacy as 'Van Hagar' in favor of Cabo Wabo tequila profits. Hagar claims Van Halen's anger stems from Cabo Wabo tequila brand disputes and his touring status. Originally reported by Rolling Stone.
Van Halen Avoids Hagar
Alex Van Halen never mentioned Sammy Hagar in his memoir, calling him a complete idiot in a recent interview.
“I don’t know what he wrote, and I don’t want to know. In my opinion, Sammy Hagar is a complete idiot.”
Hagar's Response
Hagar called Van Halen's denial of their shared legacy 'deep', 'weird', and 'not right' for the band's history.
“Guilty as charged, first of all. I’m probably the most successful idiot on the planet.”
Cabo Wabo Dispute
Hagar claims Van Halen's anger over Cabo Wabo tequila stems from past partnership and financial disagreements.
“Alex is angry about that. Cabo Wabo. At one time, Van Halen, when you built it, you guys were all partners in that.”
Touring Tensions
Hagar says Van Halen's drummer is upset he's touring with Mike Anthony while health issues prevent his performances.
“He’s not a singer. He’s not a guitar player. He is not really a band leader.”
Residency Plans
Hagar will resume his Best of All Words tour with Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Kenny Aronoff in Las Vegas.
“We sold 40 some million records, [had] four Number One albums.”
Roth's Status
David Lee Roth called off his solo tour before reuniting with Alex Van Halen at a Ted Talk.
“It’s hard to imagine anything like that happening with Alex Van Halen and Roth’s replacement in Van Halen.”
The one thing
Hagar claims Van Halen's anger stems from Cabo Wabo tequila brand disputes and his touring status.
