Shaun Edwards' England Connection

Shaun Edwards, a legendary two-code rugby coach, waited over 40 years for this moment after becoming the first schoolboy to captain England Schools at both union and league.

England's Coaching Opportunity

England fans were dismayed as Edwards signed with Argentina for the 2027 World Cup instead of taking a coaching role with the men's team.

Argentina's Invitation

Argentina offered Edwards a contract first, ranking eighth in the world and being semi-finalists in three of the past five World Cups.

Edwards' World Cup Goal

Edwards wants to defend France's best defense in the last World Cup, conceding an average of 12 points per game.

England's Current Role

Edwards had a conversation with England's boss six weeks ago but was told they're happy with their staff and the way things are going.

Women's Rugby Involvement

Edwards can still take part in the Women's Six Nations with Argentina's permission, but it's Sarah Hunter's job to arrange it.

Red Roses Experience

Edwards praised the Red Roses' defense in their first game, making over 300 tackles and conceding less than 20 points.

Prophet Quote

Edwards referenced Jesus' quote: 'No prophet is accepted in his home town' to explain his lack of England coaching opportunities.

“No prophet is accepted in his home town”

France Coaching Success

Edwards helped France win three Six Nations titles after they hadn't won one in ten years, improving their defense.

2027 World Cup Role

Edwards will coach Argentina until the end of the 2027 World Cup, his first major international coaching role.

Why Not England?

Edwards said England's staff is happy with their current setup and he respects their decision to not change.

Women's Rugby Success

Edwards wants to win a trophy for England's women and men, but has never won a women's trophy or with England men.

Future Plans

Edwards plans to stay active in rugby, coaching until the end of the 2027 World Cup and continuing to compete.
