Agents from major platforms join
Meta, Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceXSI agents can log into accounts without password exposure.
“Agents from Meta Platforms Inc., Anthropic PBC, OpenAI Group PBC and Elon Musk’s SpaceXSI will be able to log in to people’s accounts through it without ever seeing the password”
Why password pasting is risky
Pasting passwords into agent chats saves copies outside the owner’s control.
“The easy route has been to paste the password into the agent’s chat window, which leaves a copy saved somewhere outside the owner’s control”
Aashish Tripathi explains
1Password’s chief product officer says agents do real work without permanent access.
“Aashish Tripathi, chief product officer at 1Password, said agents are "starting to do real work on our behalf." In his view, an agent asked to do one task has no reason to walk away with permanent access to the whole account”
How login works
A unique digital key identifies the agent; user approves before password is typed.
“Under the new setup, the password never travels to the agent at all. A unique digital key identifies the agent to 1Password when it hits a login page, and the request that follows tells the person which account is wanted and for what. Nothing goes ahead until the person approves it on their own device, at which point 1Password types the password into the page itself”
OpenAI and Meta integrate
OpenAI connected ChatGPT Work and Dots agents; Meta’s Muse requests logins from 1Password.
“OpenAI has connected ChatGPT Work and its always-on Dots agents to 1Password, and Meta’s Muse requests logins from 1Password whenever the integration is switched on”
More companies join
Nine more companies, including Perplexity AI and Browserbase, are building integrations with 1Password.
“Beyond the launch partners, nine more companies are building their own integrations. Perplexity AI Inc. and Browserbase Inc. are on that list, and their browser-based agents have been connected to 1Password since late 2025”
