Britain bows out in quarter-finals

Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup campaign ended in Shenzhen after just one match, falling to the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals. Both Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal suffered defeats.
Boulter loses to Noskova
Katie Boulter fell to Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova 6-2, 7-6 in the tie-break, with Noskova serving brilliantly to seal victory and send the Czechs to the semi-finals.
Kartal's marathon battle
Sonay Kartal fought for nearly three hours against Marie Bouzkova but lost 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. Playing her first match in six months after a back injury, Kartal saved three match points but couldn't complete the comeback.
Czech team stronger overall

The entire Czech squad is ranked higher than any British player. Coach Anne Keothavong acknowledged the gap, saying the Czechs are the strongest team at the tournament.
“I think the Czechs are the strongest team here. I'd be surprised if they don't go on to win this competition.”
Kartal's comeback effort
Kartal returned after missing six months with a stress fracture sustained at Indian Wells in March. She had also missed the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open during her recovery.
Bouzkova praises Kartal
Marie Bouzkova expressed admiration for Kartal's performance after their match, noting her opponent's impressive return from a half-year absence and hoping she stays healthy.
“I think she played incredible. I think not playing for half a year and coming out the way she did... huge respect for her.”
Britain's recent success
Despite this loss, Britain over-performed by reaching the finals with an under-strength team. They upset Australia in April to book their place in Shenzhen.
Czech Republic's dominance
The Czechs are bidding for their seventh title since 2011 and will now face Canada in the semi-finals after this quarter-final victory.
Britain seeks first title
Great Britain's hopes of winning the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time remain unfulfilled. This was their fourth attempt to reach the last four in five years.
Davis Cup awaits Britain
Britain's men's team booked their Davis Cup Finals spot with a 4-0 victory over Ecuador at London's Copper Box. They will face Germany in the quarter-finals in Bologna in November.
Draper out, Norrie uncertain
Jack Draper has ended his season due to an arm problem. Cameron Norrie was a late withdrawal against Ecuador but coach Leon Smith hopes to have him available for Germany.
Germany's Davis Cup strength
Germany's Alexander Zverev recently won his second Grand Slam title at the US Open and immediately joined the Davis Cup team. They also have strong doubles players in Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
Britain's Davis Cup advantage
Despite Germany's strength, Zverev is their only top-50 singles player, which gives Britain encouragement. Britain's doubles pair of Henry Patten and Neal Skupski proved decisive against Ecuador.
What matters most
Great Britain fell to a stronger Czech team in the quarter-finals, with both Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal unable to secure victories despite competitive performances.
