RFL launches formal investigation

The conduct of Leigh and Wigan are to be investigated by the RFL

The Rugby Football League has ordered an independent inquiry into Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors over their conduct and actions during the past 12 months.

“The independent Rugby Football League and RL Commercial Boards have issued a letter to both Leigh Leopards RLFC and Wigan Warriors RLFC advising them there will be an independent investigation”

Ticketing row sparked the feud

The dispute began when Leigh owner Derek Beaumont refused to participate in a fixture over disagreement about his club's ticket allocation of 4,800. They eventually played and Wigan won 18-6, eliminating Leigh from the play-offs.

Tensions reignited over allocation

Wigan posted that visiting teams in the play-offs would receive 5,000 tickets for safety reasons. This sparked fresh conflict after Leigh was eliminated by Wakefield Trinity in their eliminator match.

Leigh owner Derek Beaumont responded to Wigan's statement with a tirade on social media platform X, potentially breaching the RFL's social media code of conduct.

Investigation scope covers 12 months

The RFL is examining the conduct and actions of both clubs and the governing body itself over the entire 12-month period. No further comment will be made until the investigation concludes.

“The RFL and RL Commercial will not make any further comment until the investigation is complete.”

In short
