Trumpworld's next Epstein problem

The Tate brothers face sex trafficking charges in two countries, and Trump's inner circle keeps showing up on their side.

In brief

The Tate brothers face sex trafficking charges in two countries, and Trump's inner circle keeps showing up on their side. The Tate case is not a cold scandal to investigate later. It is live, and the extradition decision lands on the Trump administration's desk. Originally reported by Slate Magazine.

Epstein's ghost, new cast

Seven years after Jeffrey Epstein died, a similar scandal is forming around Trumpworld. The players are different. The shape is familiar.

“The specter of Jeffrey Epstein continues to haunt the Trump administration seven years after the sexual predator's death.”

Who the Tates are

Andrew and Tristan Tate built a huge manosphere following among young men, selling prideful misogyny and flashy wealth as a lifestyle.

What they are accused of

Prosecutors allege a decadelong international sex trafficking ring, with dozens of accusers across multiple countries describing sexual violence against women and minors.

Charged on two continents

In July they were charged in Britain with rape and possession of child sexual abuse imagery. This month Romania indicted Andrew for trafficking minors and Tristan for complicity.

Sitting in a Miami jail

The brothers are being held in Miami, fighting extradition to the United Kingdom. They deny all allegations of criminal conduct.

This one is still live

Epstein is about past crimes and present cover-ups. The Tate case is unfinished, and if the administration bends their way, the brothers walk free to resume.

Loud, not hidden

Epstein worked the shadows of elite circles. The Tates broadcast their behavior, including video of Andrew attacking a woman on camera in 2016.

A decade of warnings

Rape and strangulation investigations have followed them since at least 2015, when they left the UK for Romania to dodge possible arrest. Their audience grew anyway.

Romania charges them

In 2023 Romanian authorities charged the Tates and co-conspirators, citing about 35 alleged victims including minors, and barred them from leaving as flight risks.

Into the Trump orbit

Into the Trump orbit

Barron Trump pushed his father toward manosphere podcasts and built a relationship with the Tates. Donald Trump Jr. livestreamed with Andrew in 2024.

“absolute insanity”

Advisers pick a side

J.D. Vance followed them on X. Alina Habba called herself a big fan. A former Tate lawyer, Paul Ingrassia, became the White House liaison to DOJ, then DHS.

“If you're in the States, I got your back.”

The Munich side meeting

At the 2025 Munich Security Conference, envoy Richard Grenell asked Romanian officials how "the Tate boys" were doing after their PR team lobbied him. Vance echoed right-wing attacks on Romanian courts.

“I support the Tate brothers.”

Travel ban lifted

Days later Romania dropped the travel restrictions over prosecutors' objections. The brothers flew to Miami, where Roger Stone posed with them for a photo.

“Richard Grenell secured the release of the Tates.”

What freedom bought

During that US trip a California woman accused Andrew of choking her and battering her head. She left with post-concussion syndrome and is now suing him.

The threat they are making

Their lawyer warns that abandoning Andrew costs Republicans the young male vote, casting a trafficking defense as a political debt Trump owes.

“Andrew Tate was a material participant in ensuring President Trump's victory.”

Why Congress should look now

Epstein's full network went unexamined while he was free. The Tates' ties to Trump's circle deserve subpoenas and transparency before the extradition call is made.

“neither favor nor fame can be allowed to shield them”

Here's the gist

The Tate case is not a cold scandal to investigate later. It is live, and the extradition decision lands on the Trump administration's desk.
