TCU lands a top 2027 point guard

Kaylor Buse picked the Horned Frogs over South Carolina and Oregon, and the reason was a relationship that started years ago.

In brief

Kaylor Buse picked the Horned Frogs over South Carolina and Oregon, and the reason was a relationship that started years ago. Recruiting at this level is won on relationships built long before the offer, and TCU just proved it can beat blue bloods for elite high school talent. Originally reported by TCU Horned Frogs…

A big win in Fort Worth

A big win in Fort Worth

TCU head coach Mark Campbell landed a pledge from 2027 point guard Kaylor Buse, one of the biggest commitments of his time with the Horned Frogs.

Who she beat out

Kaylor Buse

Buse is a 5-foot-9 point guard from West Linn High School in Oregon. She chose TCU over Utah, Oregon, Washington and South Carolina.

Announced on live TV

She made her decision public on KATU News on Monday, Sept. 14.

Top 60 nationally

ESPN ranks Buse No. 52 in the 2027 class, putting her among the best guards in the country.

A state title and all-state honors

Buse helped West Linn win its first Oregon state championship and made first-team all-state as both a sophomore and a junior.

Defense is her calling card

She was her league's Defensive Player of the Year in each of her first three seasons, a rare run for a guard.

The stat line

Last season she averaged 15.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Almost a nightly five-category contribution.

South Carolina faded late

The Gamecocks pushed hard, but their odds slipped as her decision date got closer. Buse committed weeks before a scheduled official visit to Columbia.

Campbell knew her first

Buse knew Campbell before he ever recruited her and already had a relationship with his family. She pointed to his intentional approach with players as a deciding factor.

She wanted four years

Buse said she was looking for a program where she could stay four years and build teammate bonds that feel like family. TCU's culture pitch matched what she wanted.

A guard to build around

Her scoring, passing, defending and rebounding give Campbell a versatile piece for the Horned Frogs' future backcourt.

Proof TCU can recruit

Back-to-back Elite Eight runs and a 2024-25 Big 12 title set the stage. Beating South Carolina and Oregon shows Campbell is building beyond the transfer portal.

“The faces can change, but the expectations do not.”

What it means

Recruiting at this level is won on relationships built long before the offer, and TCU just proved it can beat blue bloods for elite high school talent.
