After a two-hour conversation with Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Mamdani said he failed to negotiate the release of the shooting victim at a Thursday evening press conference.

New York politicians criticized the shooting for endangering the five-year-old in the vehicle. Rep. Ritchie Torres called firing multiple rounds into a car with a child inside abhorrent and indefensible.

“There is no explanation for federal officers firing this many rounds into a car that has a five-year-old.”

Schumer calls for body camera release

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the shooting deeply disturbing and called on the Department of Homeland Security to release body camera footage and ensure independent investigations.
