In brief
Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar prepares for ICE raids, ballot seizures and legal challenges as Trump administration targets the swing state. Nevada prepares for federal chaos
Cisco Aguilar, Nevada's secretary of state, is bracing for immigration agents at polling locations, federal seizure of ballots and the President disputing election results on November third.
Seven subpoenas target Nevada
Nevada has received seven voter-related subpoenas from the Department of Justice this year, more than any other state. Aguilar is also personally being investigated by the DOJ.
Trump won Nevada by narrow margin

Trump won Nevada in twenty twenty-four by three percentage points. The state is a perennial swing state that draws intense interest from both parties in presidential election years.
Aguilar prepares instant legal response
Aguilar's office has drafted a pre-researched legal filing, missing only the plaintiff, defendant and jurisdiction, so it can file lawsuits within seconds if a federal agent appears at a polling location.
Trump claims 278,000 noncitizen voters
In July, President Trump claimed to have identified about two hundred seventy-eight thousand non-citizens registered to vote in federal elections, sixteen thousand from Nevada alone.
Nevada rejects unreliable database
Nevada refused to upload voter information to the Department of Homeland Security's SAVE database over accuracy and privacy concerns. Election officials in Texas and Missouri falsely marked dozens of U.S. citizens as noncitizens using it.
DHS cannot substantiate its numbers
During a Zoom call with Nevada officials, a DHS official admitted the department had not conducted a full manual review of the sixteen thousand voters it identified as non-citizens.
Suspect list shrinks to 185, then zero
DHS later said the noncitizen list was down to one hundred eighty-five voters. Nevada received an incomplete dataset and found every single one was a U.S. citizen.
“Our records indicate that they were citizens. You have provided nothing of substance to suggest otherwise.”
Mail ballots dominate Nevada voting
Since twenty twenty-two, eighty-six percent of Nevadans have used mail-in ballots at some point in an election cycle, among the highest use rates in the country.
Speed matters to prevent chaos
Aguilar is pressing counties to report results as quickly as possible. The shorter the time before results emerge, the less opportunity for the federal government to create a narrative that could create chaos.
Courts reject Trump election lawsuits
A federal judge tossed out a DOJ lawsuit seeking voter information from Georgia, the twenty-sixth of thirty lawsuits the Trump administration has lost in its effort to assemble complete voting lists.
Aguilar vows to fight back
Aguilar says Nevada will take punches but cannot fall. We have to continue to protect Nevada and punch back against federal interference in the election process.
“We have to punch back.”
The takeaway
Nevada's top election official is preparing for federal interference on Election Day, including ICE raids at polling places and ballot seizures, after the Trump administration has targeted the state with seven voter-related subpoenas.
