Firdaus Bhathena brings startup mentality to financial data giant's biggest transformation yet. S&P Global's new chief technology officer is pushing the company to embrace an entrepreneurial mindset when tackling technology, data, and AI integration. Originally reported by TIME.
New tech chief at S&P Global
Firdaus Bhathena was appointed chief technology and transformation officer in March to lead the financial data company's push to bring technology, data, and AI closer together.
From CVS to startup builder
Bhathena was previously top technology executive at CVS Health, but made his name as an inventor and serial entrepreneur who founded WebLine (sold to Cisco) and Relicore (sold to Symantec).
Everything transformation ahead

Unlike previous technology waves like digital and e-commerce, Bhathena says the current environment is an everything transformation requiring technology, data, and AI to work together.
“an everything transformation”
Run toward problems
Bhathena tells his team at Standard and Poor's they must have a startup mentality. He says most people see a problem and turn away, but an entrepreneurial mindset means running toward the problem instead.
“Most people see a problem and turn away. But if you have an entrepreneurial mindset, you actually run towards the problem, not away from it.”
Building order from chaos
A self-described builder, Bhathena relaxes with Legos, having finished a 7,500-piece Millennium Falcon with a 10,000-piece Titanic next on his list.
“Building order out of chaos truly satisfies my inner engineering nerd.”
