In brief
A woman walked onto the former VP's LA property at night, and the Secret Service detail that would normally be there was gone. Harris lost her federal protection detail in 2025, so a trespass at her home was handled by private security and LA County deputies instead. Originally reported by TMZ.
A night call to the cops

Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff's Los Angeles-area home was the site of a trespassing incident on Friday night, according to a spokesperson for Harris.
Stopped before the house
Security personnel intercepted a person who had illegally entered the property before they reached the home itself. Harris and Emhoff were not there at the time.
“stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff's property before the individual reached the home”
Deputies, no arrest
Law enforcement sources say LA County Sheriff's deputies arrived around 10:30 PM after a woman was spotted on the property. Nobody was arrested.
The Secret Service wasn't there
No federal agents responded, because Harris no longer has a detail. Trump pulled her Secret Service protection in 2025, cutting short the extra year Biden had authorized.
Six months is the norm
Former vice presidents typically get six months of protection after leaving office, a point a senior White House official made to ABC when the decision came down.
California filled the gap
Los Angeles stepped in to cover her security. Reports that state resources were also guarding her book tour annoyed plenty of Californians.
The key point
Harris lost her federal protection detail in 2025, so a trespass at her home was handled by private security and LA County deputies instead.
