In brief
A mom tested whether frozen batter cubes can go straight from freezer to griddle on a school morning. Frozen batter cubes cook into crisp, fluffy mini pancakes, so keep a bag in the freezer even though they take longer on the griddle than fresh batter. Originally reported by Taste of Home.
Pancakes never happen here

Weekday mornings are about getting everyone dressed and out the door. Weekends belong to her Danish husband's aebleskivers, so a real stack of pancakes almost never gets made.
“On weekday mornings, getting everyone dressed, fed and out the door on time is an accomplishment enough.”
A freezer trick worth testing
The original idea pitches this as a way to rescue leftover batter. She wanted the opposite: freeze a whole batch, then pull out exactly as much as a busy morning needs.
How the hack works

Pour extra batter into an ice cube tray and freeze it solid. Pop the cubes out, store them in a freezer bag, and drop them straight onto a hot griddle with no thawing or mixing.
325 degrees is the sweet spot

She worried the outside would burn while the frozen dome in the middle was still thawing, so she lowered the heat. On her griddle, 325°F kept the edges from scorching.
“Putting frozen cubes of pancake batter onto a hot griddle felt strange.”
Flip before the middle melts
The cubes spread slowly and left an icy hump in the center. Impatient, she flipped them early. Batter spilled out the sides but cooking sped up a lot.
“At this point, patience would probably have been useful.”
Tiny and lopsided, on purpose

The flipped pancakes came out irregular and smaller than silver dollars. She liked them that way, and called the odd shapes charming.
They taste genuinely good

Crisp golden outsides, warm and airy centers. Handed one blind, she says she would never have guessed the batter spent the night as an ice cube.
“I'd never have guessed it had started the morning as an ice cube.”
Not faster, just easier

Frozen cubes sit on the griddle longer than fresh batter would. The win is timing: set them cooking while everyone brushes teeth and hunts for homework.
“But convenience isn't always about shaving minutes off the clock.”
In short
Frozen batter cubes cook into crisp, fluffy mini pancakes, so keep a bag in the freezer even though they take longer on the griddle than fresh batter.
