From high school to viral app

TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 Zach Yadegari

Zach Yadegari co-founded Cal AI at seventeen. The AI-powered nutrition app lets users track meals by snapping a photo. It reached fifteen million downloads and thirty million dollars annual revenue before his twentieth birthday.

How the app works

Cal AI uses image recognition and the phone's depth sensor to calculate calories, protein, carbs, and fat from a photo of a meal. The simple proposition drove rapid adoption in a crowded nutrition market.

Not his first viral success

At sixteen, Yadegari founded Totally Science, a gaming platform that drew more than five million users during the COVID-nineteen pandemic. He sold it for six figures before launching Cal AI.

Explosive growth in two years

Explosive growth in two years

Cal AI moved faster than his first venture. In less than two years, it had more than fifteen million downloads and was generating more than thirty million dollars in annual revenue.

Acquired by MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal acquired Cal AI in a deal that closed in December twenty twenty-five. The acquisition kept Cal AI as a stand-alone app, retained its seven-person team, and left Yadegari at the helm.
