Cloudflare acquires Deno

Cloudflare announced Friday it is acquiring Deno, the startup behind the programming runtime of the same name, to improve its Workers platform.
What Deno brings to Workers
Deno, co-founded by Bert Belder and Node.js creator Ryan Dahl, recently launched celld, an open source implementation of Workers that Cloudflare principal engineer Kenton Varda said delighted the team.
Cloudflare defends its approach
Varda argued that contrary to popular theory, Cloudflare did not make Workers work differently to create lock-in, saying being open source and giving people an escape hatch is good business.

Ryan Dahl wrote that his team is joining Cloudflare to make the Workers programming model a mainstream way to build servers. Financial terms were not disclosed.
