Meta hands WhatsApp Business setup to AI agents
Meta's new MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT wire up WhatsApp Business messaging while you just describe what you want.
In brief
Meta's new MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT wire up WhatsApp Business messaging while you just describe what you want. The setup grind for WhatsApp Business is now a conversation with your coding agent instead of a tour through four Meta tools. Originally reported by TechCrunch.
Agents can now onboard you
Meta announced Tuesday that AI agents of your choosing can set up and manage WhatsApp Business messaging, the service companies use to talk to customers over WhatsApp.
The old setup was a slog
Developers had to bounce between the Developer Console, Business Manager, the API reference, and their editor. Now they describe the job to an agent in chat instead.
One MCP server does it
The WhatsApp Business Tools MCP connects a coding agent straight to the WhatsApp Business Platform. Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT all plug in.
“an MCP server that directly connects an AI coding agent like Claude, Cursor, Codex, or ChatGPT to the WhatsApp Business Platform”
Meta joins a crowded field
This extends Meta's MCP lineup past ads and app config. PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google, and Microsoft already ship their own servers.
What the agent actually does
It creates the business account, adds and verifies the phone number, registers for Cloud API access, and checks the Terms of Service. The busywork, handled.
Templates, tests, silent failures
Agents can write or edit message templates from a description, test messages and webhooks, and flag things that used to fail quietly, like payment method or business verification.
