OpenAI president Greg Brockman said at a Wall Street Journal tech conference on Wednesday that the company would be ready for an IPO in 2027.

“I think so. Yes.”

Brockman feels confident about timing

Brockman said OpenAI has been clear it wants to go public when the time feels right, and he has never felt more confident in what the company is doing.

“I feel extremely good about the business.”

Enterprise business doubled in third quarter

OpenAI saw seventy percent quarterly growth in its annualized revenue in the third quarter, driven by the enterprise side of the business doubling.

Enterprise now majority of revenue

Enterprise now majority of revenue

The majority of OpenAI's revenue now comes from enterprise business, which previously accounted for only around thirty percent of its total revenue.

Early 2026 was rough for enterprise

Brockman detailed how the first and second quarters of 2026 were difficult, and OpenAI was not in the conversation on agentic coding where rival Anthropic's Claude Code had gained market share.

“We had Codex, but no one was talking about it.”

Execution turned things around

Brockman said OpenAI kept its head down and executed, leading to the turnaround in the third quarter and winning major clients like JPMorgan Chase.

Enterprise perception has shifted

A year ago OpenAI was perceived as a consumer company and clients questioned its enterprise commitment. Brockman said that perception is now very different.

“But it's so different today.”
