TikTok bans documentary ads

TikTok permanently suspended the advertising account for Musk, a four-hour documentary directed by Oscar-winner Alex Gibney, citing political content as the reason.
Other platforms also resisted
Meta and YouTube initially rejected ads for the Musk trailer before reversing course. Meta blamed its rejection on an error. X, owned by Musk, has refused to carry ads.
Distributor and release plans
Bleecker Street, the documentary's distributor, was notified of TikTok's permanent suspension. The film opened in four theaters last weekend and is rolling out more broadly.
HBO streaming planned

The documentary is scheduled to stream on HBO next year, now part of Paramount slash Skydance and led by David Ellison, whose father Larry Ellison partly owns TikTok's U.S. operations.
What it means
TikTok permanently banned the advertising account for Alex Gibney's Musk documentary over political content, following similar rejections from Meta and YouTube.
