Beats may be building iPhone game controllers

In brief
Apple's audio brand could be the one shaping how you hold your next mobile game. Apple is quietly building first-party iPhone game controllers, and Beats appears to be running the design. Originally reported by TechRadar.
Two controllers hiding in code

macOS 26.7 code references two unreleased iPhone game controllers, codenamed T6502 and T1057. MacRumors found the references; PC Mag reported them.

Nearly a year in the works

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple has been developing the controllers for almost a year, so this is further along than a stray code string suggests.
Beats is the surprise badge

Gurman says the controllers could ship under Beats, the headphone brand Apple bought in 2014 and has since stretched to USB-C cables and iPhone cases.
Beats leads the build

This is not just a logo swap. Gurman claims Beats executives are running both sides of the project, which points to Beats becoming Apple's gaming accessory brand.

Haptics set them apart

The two codenamed units carry different haptic designs on top of the usual controller features, the clearest hint so far that they are not identical twins.
An audio twist is possible

Asus already pairs shoulder buttons with a built-in subwoofer in its ROG AeroActive Coolers. A speaker and controller hybrid is the obvious card for an audio brand to play.
The RAM crisis opens a door

With RAM prices squeezing PCs and consoles, Gurman says Apple sees phone gaming accessories as a growing market and wants in. Everyone already owns the console.
