Guild Wars 3 heads to ancient Orr

The new MMO takes place 1000 years before the first Guild Wars game in the ancient land of Orr, a setting rich with the franchise's foundational lore.

Fans have wanted this for over a decade

Studio head Colin Johanson says hardcore fans have been asking for a decade to see what Orr was like before the gods left and it was destroyed.

Lore fans will recognize familiar elements

Much of Guild Wars history originates from ancient Orr. In Guild Wars 2, players visit Orr's ruins raised from the ocean, but now they'll see the land before its destruction.

New players don't need prior games

Johanson confirmed newcomers won't need to play the first two games to understand Guild Wars 3's story, making it accessible to fresh audiences.

Almost nothing about this era is known

Only about two pages of recorded history about ancient Orr have been released publicly, meaning fans and newcomers will discover the story together on equal footing.

You'll play as a Veil Warden

Players take on the role of a Veil Warden in this ancient setting, a new character class for the franchise.

Beta coming Fall 2027

Guild Wars 3 has no release date yet but a beta is scheduled for Fall 2027. The game launches on PC and PlayStation 5.
