Season 2 arrives this September

Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 premieres Friday, September 18 on STARZ in the US and September 19 on MGM+ internationally. The cast and creator promise a dangerous season with higher stakes than ever.

The Jacobite Rising sets the stage

Season 2 picks up during the Jacobite Rising of 1715, a historic Scottish conflict that splits the Highlands and forces Brian to fight alongside his father. Creator Matthew B. Roberts says the uprising will have a huge effect on everyone's lives throughout the season.

“a huge effect on everybody's life going forward throughout the season, because there will be a battle.”

Ellen and Brian face separation again

After escaping Castle Leoch together in season 1, Ellen and Brian are separated once more, this time by war rather than clan politics. Their joy at finally being together is short-lived.

Julia and Henry's time travel goes wrong

Julia and Henry face their own crisis when their attempt to return to the 1920s goes awry. Their storyline adds another layer of danger to the season.

Works as a standalone story

You don't need to have watched the original Outlander series to follow the prequel. Actor Jeremy Irvine says the scripts work as a standalone story, though longtime fans will spot Easter eggs and familiar characters.

“some very familiar characters are showing up”
