NordVPN 6.0 arrives for Linux
NordVPN released version six point zero for Linux on October twenty-second, twenty twenty-six. The major version bump brings obfuscation changes, faster OpenVPN, and removes several legacy commands.
NordWhisper replaces OpenVPN XOR
Obfuscated servers now run on NordWhisper, NordVPN's own censorship-resistant protocol launched in January twenty twenty-five. Choosing NordWhisper switches obfuscation on automatically, removing the old command.
What NordWhisper does

NordWhisper is aimed at networks that actively block VPNs, such as some workplaces, schools, public Wi-Fi, and heavily censored regions. It replaces the need to switch to OpenVPN for obfuscation.
OpenVPN gets faster on new kernels
OpenVPN upgraded to version two point seven point seven. Data Channel Offload now works on Linux kernel six point one six or newer, handing data handling to the kernel itself to avoid slow transfers.
P2P now works everywhere
The dedicated P2P server group is gone. Every regular server now supports P2P, so torrent users can simply pick a location. NordVPN stopped labelling virtual servers, saying sometimes a server is just a server.

Legacy commands removed

Outdated commands threatprotectionlite, tplite, tpl, cybersec, and whitelist have been removed. Auto-connect can no longer target a specific server number. Power users relying on scripts should check before updating.
How to update on Linux
The Linux version does not update automatically. On Debian-based distros, run sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get install nordvpn to get version six point zero.
At a glance
NordVPN released version six point zero for Linux on October twenty-second, twenty twenty-six, moving obfuscated servers to NordWhisper protocol, speeding up OpenVPN on newer kernels, and removing legacy commands that may break existing scripts.
