In brief
Texas faces a critical stretch with key players sidelined by hand fractures as they chase Houston in the AL West. The Rangers are fighting for a playoff spot while managing multiple hand injuries to important lineup contributors at the worst possible time. Originally reported by Texas Rangers On SI.
Pederson sidelined with hand fracture
The Rangers' designated hitter suffered a left hand fracture after being hit by a fastball against Arizona on Sunday. He's hoping to return Thursday when Boston throws a right-hander.
Swelling must subside before return
Pederson called the fracture small and wants to play through it, but needs the swelling to go down enough to grip a bat. He has two days before the Red Sox throw a right-hander.
Pederson's strong 2026 season at stake
After a rough 2025, Pederson has rebounded with 26 home runs and 53 RBIs while slashing .235/.329/.487. He's been the Rangers' leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching since mid-May.
Timing couldn't be worse for Texas
The Rangers entered Tuesday's game one game back of the Houston Astros in the AL West. Losing Pederson during a playoff push adds to their injury woes.
Helman begins rehab assignment
Outfielder Michael Helman started a rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Round Rock after missing time since June 14 with a right finger fracture from being hit by a pitch.
Limited window for Helman's rehab
Round Rock plays its final week of the regular season through Sunday hosting Tacoma. Helman won't have an affiliate to join after that, making his rehab timeline tight.
Eight Rangers head to Arizona Fall League
The Rangers announced eight players will join the Surprise Saguars in the Arizona Fall League starting in October, including three Top 30 prospects: Jacob Johnson, Paxton Kling, and Mason McConnaughey.
Here's the gist
The Rangers are fighting for a playoff spot while managing multiple hand injuries to important lineup contributors at the worst possible time.
