A tanker caught fire
A fuel tanker carrying about 8,000 gallons of gasoline caught fire on Interstate 795 in Reisterstown on Friday night. Crews put it out overnight.
Just past 11 p.m.
The fire started around 11:15 p.m. near Westminster Pike, according to Travis Francis, a bureau chief with the Baltimore County Fire Department.
No crash, no explosion
Francis said there was no rollover, no collision and no explosion. The truck simply caught fire with its full load aboard.
“there was no rollover, collision or explosion”
Hazmat and the state stepped in
A hazmat team helped extinguish the fire. The Maryland Department of the Environment responded too, given the volume of fuel involved.
Nobody was hurt
No injuries were reported, but officials warned on social media that roads would stay closed for an extended time while crews cleaned up.
“an extended time for cleanup”
Reopened at 7:40 a.m.
Traffic was stopped both ways on I-795 and Westminster Pike. State police said both reopened about 7:40 a.m., roughly eight hours after the fire began.
