Ocean City's fall festival lineup keeps summer alive
From music festivals to flying cars, Ocean City has transformed its shoulder season into a major tourism draw.
In brief
From music festivals to flying cars, Ocean City has transformed its shoulder season into a major tourism draw. Ocean City has successfully extended its tourism season beyond summer by launching major fall events that generate nearly $150 million in economic impact. Originally reported by The Banner.
Summer's end gets a makeover
Ocean City locals used to joke about turning off the lights when summer ended. Now the beach town has transformed fall into peak season with major festivals and events.
“Would the last person to leave Ocean City please turn off the lights?”
The strategy behind the shift
Resort tourism officials made a massive push to boost the shoulder season. The ocean stays warm into October and fewer crowds mean better experiences for visitors.
Oceans Calling music festival
Running September 25-27, this festival from the producers of Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza features Dave Matthews Band, Hootie & the Blowfish, Twenty One Pilots and Gwen Stefani. It's generated nearly $150 million in economic impact since launching in 2022.
Country Calling takes the stage
This two-day festival on October 2-3 features Laney Wilson, Rascal Flatts, Dierks Bentley, Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert. Two-day tickets start at $289.
Amusement parks included in festivals
Jolly Roger at the Pier and Trimper Rides are fenced inside the festival venue footprint, with rides at Jolly Roger free to ticketholders.
Flying cars come to Ocean City
The E-Volution Expo on Saturday and Sunday showcases electric vehicles, AI, robotics and smart homes. The Soar Tour will demonstrate flying cars with takeoffs from the convention center parking lot and passes over Isle of Wight Bay.
Ballet meets nature at sunset
Ballet on the Beach brings dancers from five professional companies including the Washington Ballet and Dance Theatre of Harlem to Assateague Island for an outdoor performance. The free event includes environmental talks about wild ponies.
Classic cars return for 39 years
Endless Summer Cruisin' runs October 8-11 with thousands of vintage cars filling Coastal Highway. The event features judged competitions, swap meets, live music and a daily Boardwalk parade of classic cars.
Harbor Day celebrates fishing heritage
On October 10, Harbor Day at the Docks celebrates Ocean City's maritime roots at the West Ocean City Commercial Fishing Harbor. The free event includes a Blessing of the Fleet at 10 a.m. and a crab cake-eating contest at 2:30 p.m.
Sunfest turns 50 with new activities
Running October 22-25, this free festival features two live stages with over 20 acts, independent vendors and food. New for 2026: tractor rides, a Halloween jeep parade, beach yoga, a bonfire and DockDogs competitions.
Wine and beer complete the calendar
Wine on the Beach runs October 23-24 with tastings and live music for $39.19. Shore Craft Beer Fest on October 24 features over 40 breweries including Dogfish Head, with $35 general admission for unlimited samples.
The main idea
Ocean City has successfully extended its tourism season beyond summer by launching major fall events that generate nearly $150 million in economic impact.
