Ravens lose Lane and Flowers to injury

Baltimore's receiving corps takes a hit as rookie standout Ja'Kobi Lane heads to injured reserve with a wrist injury.

In brief

Baltimore's receiving corps takes a hit as rookie standout Ja'Kobi Lane heads to injured reserve with a wrist injury. The Ravens must rely on backup receivers after losing Lane for at least a month and dealing with Flowers' hamstring concerns. Originally reported by The Banner.

Lane undergoes wrist surgery

Ravens rookie Ja'Kobi Lane was placed on injured reserve after wrist surgery, sidelining him for at least a month. He hurt the wrist early in the second quarter of Sunday's win over Indianapolis.

Lane misses at least four games

Lane can return no earlier than Week 6 against Cleveland. The training camp standout had one catch for 11 yards in his NFL debut before the injury.

“I know he'll be chomping at the bit to get back.”

Flowers also dealing with hamstring

Star receiver Zay Flowers is day-to-day after aggravating a hamstring injury Sunday. He still led all receivers with five catches for 150 yards and a touchdown despite missing the second half.

Jackson's performance drops without Flowers

When Flowers played, Lamar Jackson averaged 18 yards per attempt and wasn't sacked. Without him, Jackson's average dropped to 10.3 yards per attempt while his sack rate rose to 11.1%.

Backups must step up Sunday

The Ravens face the New Orleans Saints in their home opener with Lane out and Flowers questionable. Chris Moore, Devontez Walker, and rookie Elijah Sarratt could all see increased snaps.

“I have no doubt in my mind about our guys. They have been showing it throughout camp.”

Ravens dealing with multiple injuries

Beyond the receivers, Baltimore is missing left tackle Ronnie Stanley, left guard John Simpson, and cornerback TJ Tampa. Several other players were limited at practice Wednesday.

What it means

The Ravens must rely on backup receivers after losing Lane for at least a month and dealing with Flowers' hamstring concerns.
