Ravens swap kicker insurance for receiver help
Baltimore cut Jake Moody after Tyler Loop steadied the kicking job and injuries thinned the receiver room.
In brief
Baltimore cut Jake Moody after Tyler Loop steadied the kicking job and injuries thinned the receiver room. The move signals confidence in Tyler Loop and urgency at wide receiver after Zay Flowers and Ja’Kobi Lane got hurt. Originally reported by The Banner.
Receiver injuries hit
After a Week 1 win, Baltimore needed more wide receiver depth. Zay Flowers is dealing with a hamstring issue, while Ja’Kobi Lane is being evaluated for a wrist injury.
Larvadain gets the spot
The Ravens signed Gage Larvadain to the practice squad. He played 13 games for Cleveland last season, catching seven passes for 71 yards and returning punts.
More tryouts followed
Baltimore also worked out Shedrick Jackson, Dante Pettis and Octavian Smith Jr. The team finished the Colts game with only three active receivers available.
Minter still trusts youth
Jesse Minter said Devontez Walker and Elijah Sarratt can still earn bigger roles. Walker was inactive with a groin injury, and Sarratt had a rough practice week before the opener.
“Those two guys have a real opportunity to kind of get themselves into the boat, get themselves in rhythm.”
Moody became expendable
Jake Moody had been signed after Tyler Loop’s shaky preseason. Once Loop made every practice kick before Week 1, Baltimore no longer needed the extra kicker slot.
Loop answered fast
Loop opened the season by hitting from 57 and 45 yards in Indianapolis. Minter said his confidence in the rookie kicker never really disappeared.
“My confidence in [Tyler Loop] has never really shaken.”
