Life plus 185 years
Mark Jones Jr., 31, of Rosedale was sentenced Friday in Baltimore County Circuit Court to life in prison plus 185 years.
Christmas Eve 2024
Jones shot and killed his 4-year-old son, Jacobi, and wounded his 1-year-old daughter, Peyton, and the children's mother, Promyss Marcelle. He then wounded himself.
Inside Ross Ridge
The shooting happened inside the Ross Ridge Apartment Homes in Baltimore County, a domestic attack that left one child dead and two people hurt.
A jury's verdict
Jurors found Jones guilty of second-degree murder and related crimes, the conviction that set up Friday's sentencing hearing.
The judge's words
Circuit Judge Dennis Robinson Jr. rejected any mitigation from the bench before imposing the term.
“There's no excuse or justification for these crimes. This was violent. It was senseless.”
Far past what either side asked
Prosecutors requested life plus 80 years. The defense asked for 30. Robinson went well beyond the state's number.
