Two new restaurants bring buzz to Timonium strip mall

In brief

Vito's Pizza and Sushi Oishii opened last month at Yorkridge Shopping Center, giving diners reasons to visit York Road. Timonium's Yorkridge Shopping Center now has two strong dining options: Vito's for New York-style pizza and Sushi Oishii for all-you-can-eat sushi. Originally reported by The Banner.

Two restaurants, one strip mall

Vito's Pizza and Sushi Oishii both opened last month at Timonium's Yorkridge Shopping Center. The mall sits on York Road near the Maryland State Fairgrounds.

Vito's brings Naples to York Road

Owners Giuseppe and Maria Mantova are natives of Naples. Their Timonium shop is an offshoot of their Towson restaurant, focusing on New York-style pizza.

The slices are oversize and fresh

The Caprese pizza features fresh tomato sauce, melted mozzarella, and basil. The crust crackles, and slices are so big they require two paper plates.

“The crust crackled deliciously, the toppings tasted exuberantly fresh, and the oversize slices required two paper plates, as all New York slices should.”

Eat your pizza there, not at home

Whole pizzas taken home seemed to lose their magic on the drive, even after reheating. The restaurant is mostly geared toward takeout with limited seating.

Filling a pizza desert

Local residents are excited about the new option. One customer noted the area had limited choices before Vito's arrived.

“With limited options nearby, this is like a pizza desert”

All-you-can-eat sushi arrives

Sushi Oishii offers unlimited sushi for $24 at lunch and $34 at dinner. The restaurant already has a branch in Owings Mills.

Rules keep the eating in check

Diners get 90 minutes at the table. Servers will stop you when you've ordered enough, and leaving too many leftovers costs extra.

Deep-fried dishes shine brightest

The tempura vegetables were crispy and light. A deep-fried crazy roll with spicy mayo and eel sauce was punchy and comforting.

Pace yourself at the buffet

The extensive menu includes nigiri, specialty rolls, soups, and apps. But the no-leftovers rule discourages risky ordering of unfamiliar dishes.

“There's a fine line between feeling like you've got your money's worth and feeling like you'll need your stomach pumped afterward.”

What it means

Timonium's Yorkridge Shopping Center now has two strong dining options: Vito's for New York-style pizza and Sushi Oishii for all-you-can-eat sushi.
