Dhamra Port Shifts to Renewable Power
Dhamra Port in Odisha has shifted its entire electricity consumption to renewable power, becoming India’s first large-scale private multi-cargo port to operate fully on renewable electricity.
Renewable Power Consumption
The port now meets more than 90 lakh units of monthly electricity demand from renewable sources, with annual renewable consumption exceeding 108 gigawatt-hours.
Net-Zero Transition
The transition took effect in August 2026 as part of APSEZ’s long-term Net-Zero strategy to reduce emissions linked to purchased electricity.
Renewable Sources Breakdown
Around 25-30% of renewable electricity comes from APSEZ’s captive hybrid power plant at Khavda in Gujarat, with another 10-15% sourced through third-party access.
Green Consumer Arrangement
The remaining renewable electricity requirement is met through a Green Consumer arrangement with Odisha’s distribution utility.
Round-the-Clock Operations
Renewable electricity now powers the port’s round-the-clock operations, including cargo handling, storage, rail-linked activities and critical infrastructure.
