Kavach 4.0 expands across 607 km

Indian Railways approved Kavach Version 4.0 installation across 607.7 route kilometres of Lucknow Division at 252 crore rupees cost. The indigenous automatic train protection system prevents collisions and red signal overshooting.

“Kavach is an indigenous automatic train protection system designed to help prevent collisions and overshooting of red signals.”

How Kavach protects train operations

Kavach automatically applies brakes when required and monitors train movements to prevent accidents. It's designed to strengthen safety infrastructure across railway divisions.

Electronic signalling at 7 stations

Solapur Division of Central Railway will get Electronic Interlocking at seven stations for 209 crore rupees. The computer-based system prevents conflicting train movements and enables Kavach deployment.

Traction system upgrade in South Coast

South Coast Railway's Savalyapuram-Guntur section will upgrade electric traction from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV across 73 route kilometres for 142 crore rupees. The upgrade increases capacity for growing railway operations.

Four-lane bridge replaces level crossing

Western Railway approved a four-lane road overbridge at Level Crossing No. 53 on Udhna-Ukai Songadh section for 133.23 crore rupees. The bridge reduces road-rail traffic interference and improves traffic flow.

Total investment exceeds 736 crore

Four approved projects span automatic train protection, signalling, electric traction and road connectivity. Together they strengthen safety systems and increase infrastructure capacity across multiple railway divisions.

The essence

Indian Railways is investing over 736 crore rupees in safety systems including automatic train protection, electronic signalling, and traction upgrades to prevent collisions and improve operational efficiency.
